to the rebel opposition. he arrived on a cargo ship in the port of benghazi and began building our relationship with libya's revolutionaries. he risked his life to stop a tyrant, then gave his life trying to help build a better libya. the world needs more chris stevens'. i spoke with his sister, ann, this morning, and told her that he will be remembered as a hero by many nations. sean smith, was an air force veteran. he spent ten years as an information management officer in the state department. he was posted at the hague. and was in libya on a brief, temporary assignment. he was a husband, to his wife, heather. with whom i spoke this morning. he was a father to two young children, samantha and nathan. they will grow up being proud of the service their father gave to our country. service that took him from victoria to baghdad and finally to benghazi. the mission that drew chris and sean and their colleagues to libya is noble and necessary. and we and the people of libya honor their memory by carrying it forward. this is not easy. today, many americans are asking, indeed, i asked myself, how co

to like ya was killed in benghazi. chris stevens is one of four americans killed last night, protesters angry with the release of an american-made film. tahman bradley has more. >> reporter: a controversial film is igniting tempers. a large mob attacked and set fire to the u.s. consulate. in cairo egypt, anti-american demonstrators zald walls of the u.s. embassy, pulled down an american flag, and replaced it with a black flag. >> we're working with egyptians security to try to get the situation under control. >> reporter: the protesters in boa both countries appear to be angered by a movie made in america. hillary clinton strongly condemned the attack in benghazi. secretary clinton said the u.s. deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religs use beliefs of others. the new movie is being supported by terry jones. he said the movie is not designed to attack muslims. this morning, u.s. embassies throughout arab world are on high alert. an islamic extremist group is claiming responsibility. >> two state department officials have been killed in libya. we have a team of reporters in

in a violent protest at the embassy in benghazi. we are awaiting comments from secretary of state clinton as well as the president. chris steven the ambassador is from the bay area. he's the first ambassador killed on duty, since 1979, three others were also killed in today's attacks. >> number two, fires put out a fire at a duplex in alameda this morning. flames coming from the building on pacific avenue near chestnut street around 1 a.m.. firefighters hadç to rescue a paralyzed man who was trapped inside. everyone got out safely. 15 have been displaced. >> number three, milpitas police have released photos of three suspects wanted in connection with the murder of a 7-eleven store clerk. pictures are from a surveillance camera at the store on north milpitas boulevard. three entered the store, emptied the register then shot the clerk. >> number four, in about three hours, apple will unveil newest iphone in san francisco. the tech giant is expected to show off the new phone possibly with a taller screen and fasters data other products may also be revealed. >> number five, board of regents

happened in benghazi was not an anti-american protest, it was not as a result of a youtube video. it was an orchestrated anti-american terrorist attack. >>> meanwhile in tripoli, libya's president joined mourners at a memorial for ambassador stevens and three americans killed in that attack. >>> a notebook kept by the colorado movie theater shooting suspect was at the center of arguments during a court hearing. james holmes appearing in court with short brown hair instead of the orange seen before. prosecutors yesterday gave up their fight to see the notebook that holmes sent to a psychiatrist saying they didn't want to delay proceedings. well, analysts say they could still get their hands on it. >> if the defense pleads not guilty by reason of insanity, and i have every expectation they will, then the probability is that the prosecution will get to see this notebook. >> a judge yesterday also agreed to add ten attempted murder charges to the 142 counts holmes already faces. he's accused of killing 12, wounding nearly 60 others in the july attacks. basically they said, we're not
